Population by Mother Tongue
In addition to the natives of the place, early
settlers of the Province were mixtures of the migrants from Visayas,
Luzon and the neighboring provinces in Mindanao.
Several dialects are used as medium of expression
and communication. Among these, Cebuano topped at 73.85% followed
by Subanen at 10.62 % and Boholano at 1.71 % while other are of
various tribes from Luzon, Visayas and ethnic groups in Mindanao.
These estimates were revealed on the previous census conducted (1980,
1990 & 1995). Other tribes are now adopting the dominating Cebuano
dialect.
