(Message of Gov. Auring Enerio Cerilles during the 107th Commemoration of Dr. Jose P. Rizal’s death anniversary, December 30, 2003 at the Capitol Grounds.)

December 30, 1896, 7:03 in the morning the death ruffles of the drums filled the air and the guns of firing squad barked - that heralds the sublime martyrdom of the peerless genius and greatest hero of the Filipino nation.

Hence, today we amass as a people who dearly prize justice and soveriegnty, which are our potent armament in devastating the grip of oppression and the rule of evil that prevents our opportunity for growth and development 107 years ago, we’ve been deprived of the greatest person the Malayan race has produced, Dr. Jose P. Rizal.

His rendezvous of death which we are commemorating today, reminds us that we Filipinos are freedom fighters and are unafraid to lay down our lives for the cause of liberty.

served as a lasting inspiration for the Filipino nation to remain united and determined in preserving our morality and emancipation, which Rizal has conquered dauntlessly in the field of Bagumbayan.

In his earnest desire for liberty, he admoonished that by means of education and of labor, we could gain a personality and character of our own that ensue genuine redemption.

Once and for all injustice has been defeated and no longer shall we allow, any form of threat or adversity to dominate us, rather, let us initiate succesful and beneficial reforms that flow from the Divine Power above. His cognizance of a perfect dwelling where faith abounds and the God reigns, inspirits us to exalt and honor God in our land trusting that He alone has the ultimate power to bless or destroy a nation.

I am hopeful that this 107th commemoration of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose P. Rizal develop in us a deeper sense of nationalism and that justice among our people shall rule, may the banner of liberty continue to fly high and free, imbued with the ideals of peace and harmony so that we shall move onwards triumphantly for the progress of Filipino nation.

Mabuhay!
